Checksum · free, in your browser
Verify a download with its checksum
Software sites publish a hash next to the download. Compare it with the file you got to be sure it arrived complete and unchanged.
How to do it
- Drop the downloaded file on the page.
- Pick the algorithm the publisher used in Algorithm (SHA-256 for most).
- Paste the published hash into Expected hash.
- Read the result: Match means the file is the one that was published; No match means it differs.
Your files stay on this device: Checksum runs in your browser, with no upload, no account and no watermark.
Questions
Does it matter if the hash has capitals or spaces?
No. Spaces, letter case and a prefix such as "sha256:" are ignored before the hashes are compared.
What if the length differs?
Then the published hash is for another algorithm. The page says so; pick the algorithm with the same length.
What should I do on No match?
Download the file again from the official site. If it still differs, do not open it and contact the publisher.
